Institution of Royal Engineers
Bye-Laws

Purpose. Bye-laws are for the purpose of maintaining, carrying on and extending the work and charitable objects of The Institution of Royal Engineers.
Council. Members of Council must be elected in accordance with the Bye-laws.
Amendments. Members must hold a General Meeting at least once a year during which proposals may be considered to alter, vary, revoke, any existing Bye-law and new Bye-laws proposed.
Legality. No revocation, alteration, addition, abridgement or amendment will be permitted to the Bye-laws that would cause the Institution to cease to be a charity in law.
Due Process. Bye-law, revocation, alteration, addition, abridgement or amendment may only take effect once the proposal has been submitted to a General Meeting of the Institution, provided that the appropriate notice has been given, whereupon any proposed Bye-law, revocation, alteration, addition, abridgement or amendment can be considered by the Members. Approval requires a majority of not less than two-thirds of the Members voting on the proposal at the meeting, and if carried must then be submitted to the Lords of His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council for approval.
