Sponsor Guidance
The sponsor should be a person of standing who knows the applicant in their current employment. For SSgt and below this should be a Troop Commander. For WOs and Junior Officers this should be the Sqn 2IC or above. For non-serving members, this should be an employer or a contemporary who is preferably a Engineering Council registrant.
Sponsoring an Engineering Technician applicant is an important role that enables the sponsor to support, drive or simply confirm the engineering capabilities of an applicant.
It enables a sponsor to:
- Identify and realise the engineering capabilities at their disposal.
- Support the applicant’s recognition of ability.
- Produce a supporting statement.
- Recognise and drive the applicant’s CPD and general development.
- Develop a workforce of professional engineers.
Process
- The applicant will identify their sponsor as part of the their Engineering Technician (EngTech) application.
- The Institution of Royal Engineers (InstRE) will share the applicant’s application with the sponsor.
- The sponsor should complete the relevant section of the application, which will should be returned to the InstRE.
