Sponsor Guidance

The sponsor should be a person of standing who knows the applicant in their current employment. For SSgt and below this should be a Troop Commander. For WOs and Junior Officers this should be the Sqn 2IC or above. For non-serving members, this should be an employer or a contemporary who is preferably a Engineering Council registrant.

Sponsoring an Engineering Technician applicant is an important role that enables the sponsor to support, drive or simply confirm the engineering capabilities of an applicant.

It enables a sponsor to:

  • Identify and realise the engineering capabilities at their disposal.
  • Support the applicant’s recognition of ability.
  • Produce a supporting statement.
  • Recognise and drive the applicant’s CPD and general development.
  • Develop a workforce of professional engineers.

Process

  1. The applicant will identify their sponsor as part of the their Engineering Technician (EngTech) application.
  2. The Institution of Royal Engineers (InstRE) will share the applicant’s application with the sponsor.
  3. The sponsor should complete the relevant section of the application, which will should be returned to the InstRE.
