Synopsis

The aim of the Conference is to explore the role and deployment of military engineers in support of Corps level warfighting in future operations.  In the first panel session, the Conference will draw on reflections and lessons from British Army deployments above Divisional level since the Korean War and the employment of military engineers on these operations at Corps level.  Subsequent panels will consider current doctrine, skills, resources, structures and plans to deliver military engineering support to large scale deployments above Divisional level.

Panel 1 – REHS

This first Panel will review the range of military engineering tasks undertaken by the Royal Engineers at Corps level by considering a selection of large scale operations and deployments above Divisional level since the Korean War.  This historical perspective will draw reflections and lessons from the extent of military engineering activity undertaken supporting a large Force.  The range of military engineering activity considered will include the enabling engineering for transportation and logistics, such as ports, railways, roads and other infrastructure, air and aviation support for the Force, medical facilities, and both domestic and technical accommodation.  This panel will also consider critical national infrastructure, collaboration with the Host Nation and international partners, and the use of contractors.  There are lessons for skills, structures and resources cross all these aspects of military engineering at the Corps level.
