Institution of Royal Engineers – Strategy 2035

The Institution of Royal Engineers (InstRE) has refreshed its strategy and produced the new InstRE Strategy 2035.

This updated strategy, published on 10 June 2026, codifies the existing four lines of operation, which have sustained growth and interest in the Institution over recent years, and sets out how we will take the Institution through the next stage of its strategic development.

Our focus remains on increasing the professionalisation of members, creating an inclusive and interactive community of interest as a relevant, attractive, and sustainable military engineering professional body with the highest standards, and continuing to be an organisation able to provide innovative solutions in complex environments appropriate for the 21^st Century.

Working with the wider military engineering stakeholder community, we aim to protect the military engineering enterprise, encourage discussion, drive innovation, support technological advances, embrace social change, and publish findings, so that the wider engineering sector remains fit for purpose within a rapidly evolving landscape.

To achieve our goals, we will continue to work in partnership with others.  Collaborative ventures support regulation within the engineering profession as a whole and contribute towards greater diversity, reinforcing the ability to field engineering professionals able to meet trusted standards of competence and commitment right across the broad spectrum that is military engineering.
