Engineering Technician Application

We have done most of the work already! If you are a junior officer or an NCO, we’ve already mapped your RETCC or your Class 1 trade and your Command, Leadership and Management training across to the competences set out by the Engineering Council for EngTech.  All that is required therefore is for you to confirm your qualifications, explain your experience, and develop a plan to continue your CPD, we will do the rest.

Note the below prior to application

A successful EngTech application relies on the complete and correct submission of evidence.  You will, or may, already have the skills and engineering background to be awarded an EngTech registration.  This however still needs you to prove this level and use of engineering competence.

A successful application may also enable you to claim your EPRA award for achieving such a qualification.

An EngTech registration also translates into the equivalent civilian engineering careers and highlights your ability to employers, customers and colleagues.  You would also be able to use the Post Nominals (EngTech MInstRE).

Notes

1. In order to make an application for EngTech you must first be a member of the Institution of Royal Engineers. Please apply for membership via the website. You will also need to make sure you can login to the website.
2. Once an application has started you can return and add to your application all the time it hasn’t been submitted.
3. As you work through your application, you should target the criteria shown here.
4. Your Sponsor should be your line manager and be familiar with your performance in your current employment.  You will need to arrange a meeting with your Sponsor so that they can support your application.  You will not be able to complete the application without completing the Sponsor section online with your Sponsor.
5. JPA competences pages and copies of any certificates held (City & Guilds/NVQ/RSMS/RSME etc), should be uploaded as individual files.  As part of the application you must include your JPA competencies evidence or the civilian equivalent.  Your application will not proceed without these.
6. You will also need to complete a hardcopy direct debit which will be used for EngTech registration and future fees. Please print, complete, sign and return by post to – Royal Engineers Central Charitable Trust, Corps Treasurer RHQ RE, Brompton Barracks, Chatham, Kent, ME44UG.  Your application cannot be completed without the Direct Debit form.  
7. Your completed and submitted application will be entered into the assessment queue ready for review by the EngTech Selection Board. Results will be sent out by email once the Board has sat.

Experience Statement – Complete and upload this experience statement document.  Referrals usually happen because this experience task is not completed sufficiently.  You are evidencing your engineering history, knowledge and capabilities.

To enable different routes of application, you can either apply electronically below or through sending us the completed application, sponsor form and supporting evidence to admin@instre.org.  The Direct Debit form must, in all cases, be sent through the post.
