The 2025 Challenge!

Members may write on any military engineering subject that deserves attention and will be of interest to others – it is entirely up to you! Remember that all entries are judged by an independent panel (redacted to removed details of name, rank or experience to ensure a level playing field) on their merit by the judging panel.

The Institution is particularly keen to acknowledge the contribution of junior members, who are more than capable of winning the main prize – just ask Lance Corporal David Wong, who won the main Professional Development Prize of £500 in 2024!

Please submit your entry to the editor of The RE Journal (journal@instre.org) by 30 Aug 25 to allow the prize for respective categories to be selected. The best submission will then be presented at the Corps of Royal Engineers Awards for Engineering Excellence 2025 being held in November 2025 at One Great George Street, London SW1P 3AA.

Articles should be submitted with a covering email stating the category being entered. All submissions should be submitted in Microsoft Word with illustrations (with appropriate captions) both embedded and attached separately to aid formatting. Articles should be no more than 3,000 words (this is a limit not a target!). Entries should not be work already submitted as a Staff College paper or a degree dissertation – Members wishing to use such materials should revise them as articles and use footnotes for references rather than Harvard or other referencing systems.

If you have any questions, please contact the editor of the Journal on journal@instre.org

InstRE Publications House Style
