The National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence

COLONEL R M BLUNT BEng (HONS) MSC MInstRE

On 1 December 2019, the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI) was formed as a 1-star commanded organization. That brought all of Richard Blunt imageDefence Intelligence specialist geospatial organizations under one dedicated geospatial command for the first time. This article has been created from a speech that the author gave at DGI20 in London, January 2020, where the aim was to explain some of the detailed developments underway that will take NCGI from our current levels of expertise to the next level as a modern, world leading, data-centric national centre for geospatial intelligence. Whilst we have many world class experts and organizations in specific areas, one of the key tenets of NCGI’s development agenda is to draw these elements closer together by placing data at the centre of the organization as a whole.  Whilst this article is specific to NCGI, much of what is discussed here is applicable to every military organization looking to become more data-centric.
