In November 2025 we lost 68 year old Sgt J Gilbert, REMEMBER HIM!
Between 1973-1974 Maj Gilbert RE deployed sections complete civil and force protection, water supply and road survey tasks along the coast from Taqah to Mirbat. The story of this and many other Corps activities are available in Journals and through many of the publications held and sold by the Institution. |

In Oct 2025 SSgt Mitchell went to the Sqn bar.
A relative or namesake Capt C J R Mitchell wrote the paper ‘Geospatial Support to Battle Groups in Helmand CAPTAIN C J R MITCHELL MSc MInstRE. This and many other engineering concepts are discusses in the InstRE Journals. The developments of many Engineering principles are held in the RE Museum. |

In Oct 2025 we said goodbye to 8219 T Chapman.
The year is 1857 in Sebastopol and Col Chapman C B t witnessed, after failures by the Royal Artillery and Blue Jackets, Lt Lennox and his band of Sappers, capture, care for and breed wild camels. Their first calf was born in the Engineers Camp. Camels have been connected to many Corps activities, personnel and history ever since. |

Your Institution cannot function without the ‘outstanding’ support of its amazing volunteers who work as part of our Volunteer Peer Group! All you need, is to be registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer, or Chartered Engineer and ideally should have been EngTech in the past.
The InstRE is speaking to the Society for the Environment; as a Member, we can develop the EnvTech Award, in a first-step. This needs Volunteers to carry us through the prestigious lead in sustainability.

The Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) are exploring how the engineering profession can assist the plight of refugees by leveraging our respective networks of volunteer mentors, and through collaborating with Business in The Community (BITC) and the Refugee Employment Network (REN). The goal is to create a programme that matched refugees with mentors from the PEIs, with the potential to scale based on demand.
REN held a training session for mentors on Thursday, 30 January 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If any member would like to make contact and investigate, please register here.

Professional Engineering Registrations
Commissioning Board Deadline
To rely on a successful Professional Registration for a Commissioning Board, applicants should have their Professional Registration Interview completed by 31st October. That suggests you should have planned your application to clear the Route Advisory Panel for early September, as a minimum. Please discuss options with Registrar C Hessey for detailed guidance.

Remember, anyone on Regular Full-Time Trade Trained Strength, Full Time Reserve Service or serving as a volunteer in the reserve forces of the Army Reserve who are professional registrants (EngTechs, IEng & CEng) are eligible to reclaim their Professional Body Fees back from Defence. As a Professional Engineering Institution (PEI), we are able to assist our Sapper family’s development and future engineering capabilities. We support our past and currently serving members in achieving and improving their engineering qualifications, registration and recognition.
All of the below Engineering registrations are recognised within the MOD and onwards towards any subsequent civilian career. They highlight your ability, background and professionalism.
